What is Bookadio?

Bookadio is an audiobook and reading experience designed to make stories more personal and interactive, connecting listening and reading with reflection, emotion, and social connection.

Collaboration

Worked closely with the UX research team to translate research insights and usability findings into practical design decisions.

Responsibilities

Designed the app experience from low-fidelity wireframes to final visual design. Developed the design system, including components, icons, and typography, and refined the interface through research and usability feedback.

Goal

Create a reading and listening experience that feels more personal by connecting stories with moods, meaningful passages, and shared reflections.

User Challenge

Users have easy access to books and audiobooks, but the experience can often feel passive and disconnected. The challenge was to create a more meaningful way for people to engage with stories while moving naturally between listening, reading, and personal reflection.

Design Approach

I explored how reading, listening, and personal reflection could work together in one seamless experience. The design focused on making emotional engagement feel natural, from capturing a mood or meaningful passage to adding a note or sharing a reflection.

Assumptions & Insights

Research and usability testing suggested that users wanted more than simple playback or bookmarking. They valued being able to connect stories with their moods, save meaningful passages, and capture personal reflections. These insights shaped the experience around emotional connection, personal expression, and continuity between reading and listening.

Solution

Bookadio brings reading and listening together with simple tools for personal reflection. Users can connect moods to stories, highlight meaningful passages, add notes, and share reflections, while moving seamlessly between reading and listening without losing context.

Design Process

My design process moved from research and user flows to low-fidelity wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and interactive prototyping. I explored different ways to connect reading, listening, mood, and reflection, refining the experience to create a clear and cohesive interface.

Outcome & Reflection

Bookadio brings reading, listening, and personal reflection into one connected experience. The project reinforced the value of designing beyond functionality, using interaction, visual storytelling, and emotional context to create a more engaging relationship between people and the stories they choose.
