Experience stories in a deeper, more personal way. Listen, read, and share your reflections seamlessly.
Overview
What is Bookadio?

Bookadio is an audiobook and reading app designed to help users connect emotionally with stories.

My Role

UX & Visual Design

Collaboration

Worked closely with the UX research team to gather insights and conduct usability testing.

Responsibilities
  • Designed the app experience from low-fidelity wireframes to final visual design.
  • Developed the design system, including components, icons, and typography.
  • Iterated and refined designs based on user research insights.
Goal

Enable reading and listening experiences that are emotionally engaging by linking moods, favorite passages, and social sharing.

User Challenge
  • Users spend hours scrolling online but only a few minutes reading.
  • While audiobooks provide access, they often fail to create a meaningful emotional connection.
Design Approach
  • Balance freedom and structure for creative users.
  • Provide flexibility to capture inspiration without rigid pressure.
  • Design the app as a creative sanctuary rather than a traditional to-do list.

Assumptions & Insights

Research revealed that users enjoy stories more when they can link them to moods, annotate passages, and share reflections. Traditional audiobook apps lacked ways to personalize this engagement, leaving users feeling detached from the stories they loved. Social features were often limited to basic recommendations rather than deeper emotional connections.

Solution

Bookadio transforms reading and listening into an interactive emotional experience. Users can tag moods, highlight passages, add notes, and share insights with friends or the community. Switching between reading and listening is seamless, preserving context. Recommendations focus on both genre and emotional resonance, helping users discover content that truly connects with them.

Design Process

The process included research, low-fidelity wireframes for mood mapping and social interaction, visual design with a minimal, immersive interface, and iterative prototyping based on user feedback.

Outcome & Reflection

Bookadio reconnects users with stories on a personal level. Users reported deeper engagement, appreciation for capturing moods and reflections, and richer social interactions. This project reinforced the importance of designing for emotions and demonstrated how thoughtful interaction patterns and social features can turn a functional app into an inspiring experience.
